Adoption Ladder

You cannot mandate adoption. The five-step sequence that earns organizational trust and moves AI tools from novelty to daily habit.

The Adoption Ladder is a sequential framework for introducing AI tools into an organization. You cannot force users to adopt new behaviors overnight; trust must be earned step-by-step.

The Five Steps of Adoption

  1. Awareness: Users understand what the tool is and isn't.
  2. Trial: Users test the tool in low-stakes, non-critical environments.
  3. Verification: Users actively double-check the AI's output against their own judgment.
  4. Reliance: The tool becomes a standard part of the workflow.
  5. Advocacy: Users champion the tool to their peers.

Skipping any of these steps inevitably leads to the "Pilot Trap," where tools look good in demos but fail in production environments.
